Towards a True Balance

Wow, what a year I had in 1997. From tears of sadness to tears of joy, from pain to pleasure, from ignorance to enlightenment, from a few who hate to many who shared love, I have seen it all and I have been part of it all. In the twenty short months that I have journeyed on Mother Earth, I know why she cries out in pain, I know why she hangs her head in sorrow and sadness as she watches what a few vocal and/or powerful, self-centered and greedy people, do to her and to the creatures she has built a home for. Egos, lack of respect for the rights of others, and the need for instant gratification, seems to control their actions. They act without thinking of the consequences just as an acholic does with a drink and a drug abuser does with drugs. They are guided by their own projection of reality and they create a world centered around themselves, creating "truths" that paint the picture they want to see, blocking the vision of reality of the world that actually exists. They react in a defensive manner distorting facts to justify their actions. These are not just the big shots out in Washington, DC, not just state politicians and representatives of special interests, but politicians and people even here in Clear Creek County and in each of the towns within the county, including right here in Silver Plume. Over the next year I will continue to speak for the rights of all of Mother Earths creatures, and when a wrong is done, I will point it out. As you know from past columns, I'm not afraid to name names, so you will always know who is behind the action that has been or is being done.

Today I would like to share with you today a short essay. I am not sure who wrote it. If any of you know please let me know.

TOWARDS A TRUE BALANCE

"Be mindful! Husband the earth. Protect her from greed and violence. Build humbly, plant trees, grow flowers and clothe her with dignity. Respect all her creatures. Honor her natural laws and the universe which cradles her. Above all, heartily worship the Source of All that Is.

This world needs secret heroes! Be brave, speak the truth, heal the sick, make peace. Be strong, serve patiently, love generously, live simply. Enjoy fellowship, eat and drink modestly, celebrate the festivals. Breathe deeply, sing and make music, walk often, cycle and recycle. Be thrifty, prefer cash flow to possession, give good measure. Let your work be your prayer.

Put on the whole armour of light! Unearth the beauty in everything. Inhale the Spirit of Goodness. Kindle kindness, especially toward yourself, embracing the sweet silence of your own soul. Fear nothing. Accept what you are and, while you have breath, give thanks".

I would like to wish each and every one of my readers a happy and prosperous 1998. I challenge each of you to look at the world as through a wide angle lens instead of through the narrow vision of a telephoto lens. There is so much more beauty to see.
